Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

7.40pm Time to say goodbye, then. Hop over to the game in Jaipur, where Kolkata Knight Riders opted to bowl. Bye from this tab, and see you on the other!

7.35pm Time for the presentation.

Kagiso Rabada, the Man of the Match: “It was a weird tournament for us as a team. Today my lines worked for me, and I’m glad. On a daily basis, you try to execute you simple skills. And not all the time does it work perfectly, but you should try to get it in a decent area. To be honest, I don’t see myself as a leader in the bowling group. But if someone needs advice or needs my help, I’m always there. As a player, I believe I have a responsibility at the top and at the death.”

Winning captain Shreyas Iyer: “Tough pitch to bat on, wanted to play positively. I bank a lot on my cut-shots, and I need to wait for those balls to play them. Wanted to maneuver the ball, and keep the singles. I think they were 10-15 runs less on this wicket, it was two-paced, and very happy how Rabada bowled in the last two overs. Really good for the team. The collapse isn’t worrying, but we need to think further moving on. We will think about such areas we can work on. I’m really positive the boys will come back positively. Big satisfaction when you win a game. Atmosphere in the dressing room and hotel is really good. I’m doing alright as a captain, want to maintain it.”

Virat Kohli, the losing captain: “We thought 160 would be competitive, but we kept losing wickets at regular intervals, so I wanted to take the game deep. Even 150, had we held on to our chances, would’ve been difficult for them. We need to grab those chances, can’t give excuses every day. We just weren’t good on the given day. That’s the whole story of RCB this season. When AB got out, I had to anchor the innings. Stoinis was good, Akshdeep was good too. When one senior batsman gets out, it’s important for the other senior to anchor. I wasn’t happy getting out at the stage, could’ve made 25-30 more for the team if I was still there till the end, but felt 160 was a good score. When the mind is cluttered, you wouldn’t be able to focus on the chances that come your way. When you have clarity, you can take your chances better. Shreyas made 65, he was dropped on eight. You never know, could’ve come into the game that time. There’s nothing more you can tell the team. We’ve asked the boys to take responsibility. It hasn’t happened so far, and that’s the reality. Need to play expressive cricket. Personally, not trying to control anything. After a while, it’s about the skill. Team needs to relax, whatever’s in front of us, we need to accept it. We want to enjoy as a team, otherwise we won’t be able to play any good cricket.”

Pranav Kumar: “Only 4 people are playing in XL.. So we can see four people in stats”

ShaileshR: “So Pant couldn’t finish the game again. It frustrates me how he’s so talented and yet all he has to show for it are two test hundreds. He has a long way to go to justify his talent.”

TrueRcbFan: “I wish Parthiv had not dropped Shreyas in the first over, the fate of game would have been written differently. ”

Ashwin Rishinar: “When a team does this bad, it’s bound to win the next year’s tournament. See Deccan chargers 2009 Mumbai 2015.”

7.19pm Another woeful day for Royal Challengers Bangalore. The three late Capitals wickets did make the game interesting, but RCB weren’t in the contest for most of this chase. Dropped catches and scrappy fielding the story behind their loss once again. Shreyas Iyer took the pressure off this chase after Shaw and Dhawan fell early on, and eventually it was his anchoring knock that ensured Capitals were always ahead of the eight-ball.

meher: “ that, its a team which win you games not players….”

Amitkumar Bobad: “Y Chahal is at the second position with 9 wickets on the ‘Most Wickets’ list….Kohli, AB and Patel are at 5th, 7th and 8th position respectively on the ‘Most Runs’ list. And RCB is at the last on the Points Table. What an irony. ”

Thando: “Could’ve been very close if Iyer was caught in the first over…”

18.54 Mohammed Siraj to Patel there’s the winning runs! Full, just outside off, and Axar drives over cover to collect the two points. Delhi Capitals win by 4 wickets. RCB go 0-6 FOUR

Aryan: “rcb scored just 16 in last 3 overs That is where they lost. Another 20 and this match was theirs”

18.41 Mohammed Siraj to Tewatia length ball outside off, and clubbed to deep point for a walking single 1 run
18.30 Mohammed Siraj to Tewatia back of a length, just outside off, and he tries to guide this over the keeper’s head. Can’t get the connection. Soft appeal for caught behind, but they choose not to review. Rightly so no run

Tamil mani: “What is the stat for longest straight losses in IPL” — 11, Delhi Daredevils. Long way to go

Vidyadhar: “Oh wait! Is this the start of something? #RCBFirstWin ?”

Mahmood Ali: “How about Anil Kumble as Head Coach of RCB and Captain Kohli.”

Sandeep: “3 to go for both teams. Go RCB… ”

18.2W Mohammed Siraj to Pant another one! Can Delhi avoid another collapse? Kohli’s smiling, a rare sight today. Length ball angling across, and the back-foot swipe can’t clear mid off OUT
RR Pant c Southee b Mohammed Siraj 18 (26m 14b 2×4 0x6) SR: 128.57
18.12 Mohammed Siraj to Pant length ball, wide outside off, and he clubs a shot to extra cover. Enough time to come back for the second run 2 runs

Delhi need 5 off 12 balls

AussieBren: “So begins the Dehli collapse…!”

End of Over No.18 Delhi Daredevils 145/5 Last Over (1 run)

17.6W Saini to Morris taken at mid off! Back of a length, on off, and he backs away to punch. Flies off the bat’s top-half, and AB de Villiers holds on. Again they’re checking for the no-ball, but Saini is fine OUT
CH Morris c de Villiers b Saini 0 (4m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Five to win.

Dhaval Shah : “RCB has been through all in this IPL. A low-scorer, A high-scorer, a nail-biter, a No-Ball drama and much more but still couldn’t manage to go over the line. Must be a sinking feeling for the entire team. How do you lift yourself up after 6 straight losses?” — Long before the next game won’t help either

17.50 Saini to Morris back of a length on off, and the attempted pull is mistimed to mid-on no run
17.40 Saini to Morris back of a length on off, and the ball goes over the batsman’s shoulders no run

Sankalp: “Anyone else feeling sad for kohli :(”

Oneflydown: “@Dikshya: Apart from the records of Kohli, I would rather tell that Virat won for India, when proxy DHONI was behind the stumps!!”

17.3W Saini to Iyer splices the pull! And Chahal takes a catch at short cover. Back of a length on off, and the attempted pull flies off the bat’s edge. But wait, has Saini overstepped? Backfoot is on the line, it all depends on the umpire’s interpretation. That’s out, reckons the TV umpire. Gone after a classy 67 OUT
SS Iyer c Chahal b Saini 67 (75m 50b 8×4 2×6) SR: 134.00
17.20 Saini to Iyer back of a length on middle, and nudged off his hips to square leg no run
17.11 Saini to Pant back of a length on middle, and pulled off the back foot to deep midwicket 1 run

Suraj: “I hope DC won’t mess it as they did last time. But also, let’s hope that RCB can bounce back in next match. Its not too late yet.” — Their next match, against Punjab, is probably their last chance to keep their season alive

End of Over No.17 Delhi Daredevils 144/3 Last Over (13 runs)

Dikshya: “@Guruprasad…ever heard of captain leading from the front ? Before complaining on his captaincy why don’t you have a look around at his records and how his aggressive mindset has helped team Indial. Just don’t judge him on his ipl captaincy. He can only win if team supports !!”

16.66 Chahal to Iyer hammered! Full, tossed up outside off, and Iyer has sent this into the second tier. Proper swing of the bat, and clubbed over long-off for six SIX
16.51 Chahal to Pant full, outside leg, and he sweeps to deep backward square 1 run
16.40 Chahal to Pant length ball, wide outside off and turning in slightly. Pant shoulders his arms, but that’s not a wide no run
16.30 Chahal to Pant tossed up on leg, and he mistimes a sweep to square leg no run
16.24 Chahal to Pant length ball, wide outside of, and he reaches towards the ball to muscle a cut. Placed past point, and there are big gaps at the boundary there. No fielder bothered moving FOUR

Rudra Varma: “With Delhi, it ain’t over till the last run is scored. Keep ur hopes up RCB fans ”

16.11 Chahal to Iyer length ball, wide outside off, and cut off the back foot to deep point 1 run
16.11 Chahal to Iyer length ball, wide outside leg, and skidding through. Left alone 1 wide

Guruprasad S: “Enough of this ‘wearing his heart on his sleeve’ nonsense. Kohli just doesnt have the cool headedness to think in the heat of battle. Kohli’s swearing at opponents and teammates, and his century celebrations, are some of the most unedifying sights in cricket. As for his success as team India captian, the Indian team is of the type ‘my grandma could captain it’. ”

suddy: “Best captain inthis IPL is Ashwin. How he uses resources below par is extraordinary. Next is karthick”

End of Over No.16 Delhi Daredevils 131/3 Last Over (8 runs)

Timeout, wonder what Kohli will be talking about

RCBguy: “Forecaster still gives 5% for RCB :O ”

nimmit jain: “one thing for sure.. kohli will not pick up his squad on the basis of our discussions lets concentrate on the ongoing match rather than discussing something pointless”

Arvind : “Looks like Southee’s over will seal it for Delhi. He’s been sixer Southee for all the wrong reasons this year :P”

15.61 Ali to Iyer length ball, wide outside off, and cut away to deep extra cover 1 run
15.50 Ali to Iyer length ball on off, and tapped off the back foot to long on no run

Najee: “best captain in the ipl sits on SRH’s bench”

15.41 Ali to Pant full on off, and he walks down the wicket before drilling a shot to long on 1 run
15.31 Ali to Iyer length ball on off, and flicked off his hips to deep midwicket for a single 1 run

SuhasReddy: “Sreshth, what’s up with the forecaster today? ” — 95% for Delhi.

15.21 Ali to Pant full, wide outside off, and he mistimes a slog to deep midwicket 1 run
15.14 Ali to Pant full on off, and he goes down on one knee to slog. Mistimed to deep backward square, but hey, there’s no fielder there! FOUR

End of Over No.15 Delhi Daredevils 123/3 Last Over (9 runs)

14.61 Saini to Pant full on middle, and he sticks his bat out to guide this down to third man 1 run
14.51 Saini to Iyer on his toes, and flicked behind square to deep backward for a single 1 run

Tarique Aziz: “if we base everything on IPL form then Kohli should give up captaincy of India… :P” — decent idea, to be honest. Rohit is super as captain, but Kohli won’t be the same batsman simply as a player/non-captain

14.40 Saini to Iyer full on middle, and driven off his toes to midwicket. Stopped by the infielder no run

Bhawesh: “Dear Comm, there is nothing like a defined #4 #5 or #6. These guys have made a mockery of the team set-up in the last 12 months. You have a Middle order batsman who then bats at 4,5 or 6 as the situation demands. #LetsStopMakingFussOf#4”

14.34 Saini to Iyer back of a length on middle. Iyer backs away and cuts behind square to third man. Ball lands in front of Siraj, spins awkwardly on the bounce, and he makes a mess of that in the deep. Oh dear! FOUR

PutThis: “@Sreshth That’s coz Iyer playing sensibly without big sixes. People get easily disturbed by Six hitters on any given day”

14.31 Saini to Iyer back of a length on middle, but going down leg. Iyer ducks under, and happily collects the wide 1 wide

DevB: “C’mon Sreshth , there is a difference between IPL and the World Cup.. we know that by now :)”

14.20 Saini to Iyer full on leg, and he backs away to cut a shot to cover. Stopped by the fielder there no run
