Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

That’s it from us for today’s double header. Make sure you join us tomorrow for two more matches. Till then, this is Saurabh signing off on behalf of Alan and Raghav.

Shreyas Iyer is the Man of the Match “Really satisfying win after three home games. Losing them was really disappointing at the start but we recovered well. Got a good start from Shikhar today, it made it easier for the batsmen to follow. The kind of batsmen we have are on the rise players and love the ball coming on bat. But this is really slow to play on (the pitch). If you get set though you can get runs. Today I took the responsibility. (Lamichhane) is a very confident lad. When he goes for runs, he comes back strong. He’s fearless and positive in his approach. He benefits from Amit Mishra’s experience also. (Dhawan) has been giving us brilliant starts. If you get 50 in the Powerplay it’s really good and we got 60 today. Very satisfying to stay till the end. One of the top four has to stay till the end. I took the responsibility today and hopefully continue through the rest of the matches.”

12.04am: Time for the presentations.

Ashwin: The total was just below par because of the dew. I thought we lost a few too many wickets in the middle despite Chris playing a great knock. Disappointing (about Mujeeb’s injury) but we have talent in the dressing room to bank on. I thought we were giving some of those soft boundaries here and there. If it was 12-13 off the last over, we would have fancied ourselves. Credit to Shreyas, he held his nerve and saw it through. we’ve lost a lot of close games and won a few. We need to catch the momentum here.

Dhawan: Very important for us to win this game. We want to qualify for the knockouts. We got better at finishing the game, but I still feel we have to get more better. I knew that first six overs we have to cash in, and then I changed my strategy. It’s working for me, working for my side. On these sort of slow and turning wickets, we have to cash in, in the first six overs. I focus on my process and of course I feel that as an experienced player, I communicate more in the middle and make sure we don’t lose a wicket under pressure. I talk to the boys and they also talk to me.

11.54pm: Delhi now have 12 points. Can they almost smell that elusive playoff spot after years of heart-breaks? They’ll deserve it for sure, despite some moments of nervousness.

19.44 Curran to Iyer back of a length, swatted across the line and he’s picked out the gap at midwicket. Delhi get over the line. They’ve won a match at home, though they stumbled and fumbled and wobbled and weaved at the finish line. But they got over it, which is what counts. They move clear of KXIP in the points table. Iyer will be pleased to have seen this through. No second miracle for Curran and Punjab, but they still managed to drag it out till the last over – commendable given Delhi’s position FOUR

KXIP need another Curran hat-trick. DC just need to hold their nerve

19.32 Curran to Iyer slashed this over cover, gets a thick outside edge but it falls safely and they take two. Risky shot, but fortune was with him 2 runs
19.21 Curran to Rutherford smashed back with incredible power straight over the bowler, but long-off runs in and collects on the bounce. Great work from Miller. Rutherford thought it was a boundary and only set off for a run late 1 run

5 off 5 now

19.11 Curran to Iyer length ball angling into him, he was walking across, whips this to deep midwicket 1 run

6 needed off 6 balls. Capitals have gone from 116 for 1 to 156 for 5. Not quite a 7 for 8 collapse but worrisome. And it’s Sam Curran with the ball.

End of Over No.19 Delhi Daredevils 158/5 Last Over (4 runs)

18.61 Mohammed Shami to Iyer cleared his front leg to have almighty thwack at it, but gets an under-edge to long-on 1 run
18.51 Mohammed Shami to Rutherford another length ball on leg stump tucked to deep square. They are not going to take a second this time! 1 run
18.41 Mohammed Shami to Patel there’s a collision and a run out, it looks like this was a length ball on the pads and Axar tucked it to deep square leg and called for two. Shami had finished his follow through and was in a legitimate position at the edge of the pitch, watching the ball. Axar turned around and half-collided with him, which meant he wasn’t in time to beat the throw. He’s not happy. Shami shrugs and says he didn’t come in the way. And he’s right 1 run, OUT
AR Patel run out 1 (3m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

9 runs needed off 9 balls. If you have nails, bite them

18.3W Mohammed Shami to Ingram knocked him over Ingram wanted to finish it off in a hurry perhaps, danced down the track to drive and ends up yorking himself. Ball screams through and knocks the middle stump out of the ground. Still time for a twist? OUT
CA Ingram b Mohammed Shami 19 (18m 9b 4×4 0x6) SR: 211.11
18.21 Mohammed Shami to Iyer short ball into the body, he pulls to deep midwicket to raise fifty 1 run
18.10 Mohammed Shami to Iyer back of a length outside off, moving away. Iyer wanted to steer it, but ends up feeling for it, with the ball going past edge no run

End of Over No.18 Delhi Daredevils 154/3 Last Over (13 runs)

17.64 Viljoen to Ingram Ingram’s taking charge. He’s not going to allow another botched chase on his watch. Super shot this, gave himself room and drove it from his toes through extra cover. FOUR
17.54 Viljoen to Ingram he’s in perfect control is Ingram. Short ball, off-cutter and he swivels to pull this off his hips and to the square leg boundary. Doing it calmly FOUR

Ramji V: “Delhi can’t win in kotla directly. So this will go into super over. You heard it here first!” – I’m holding you responsible for delayed shift if it does Ramji!

17.40 Viljoen to Ingram angles it into him this time to deny room and he squirts it back to the bowler no run
17.34 Viljoen to Ingram great placement and shot full ball on the fourth stump line, and he drives with an open face to place it to short third man’s left and to the fence FOUR
17.21 Viljoen to Iyer dug in short and Iyer is defeated on the pull, hits his chest and rolls to short third man 1 run
17.10 Viljoen to Iyer has an absolute thrash at that, width outside off and room to free his arms, he does so with a powerful cover drive, but straight to the cover fielder no run

Forecaster still says 86% for Capitals

End of Over No.17 Delhi Daredevils 141/3 Last Over (5 runs)

16.61 Mohammed Shami to Iyer good length on off, swiped across the line to deep square leg. Not well timed 1 run
16.51 Mohammed Shami to Ingram flays at this full one outside off and a thick outside edge rolls to third man 1 run
16.41 Mohammed Shami to Iyer good work by Rahul behind the stumps. Iyer backs away to have a thrash at it through extra cover, but the bowler follows and goes between bat and pad. Because he has moved away so much it’s well down leg side but Rahul dives and stops the ball 1 bye

Naved: “Even if it looks pretty straight forward for Delhi, I’m not leaving my chair until the last run ( hopefully winning run) has been scored.”

16.30 Mohammed Shami to Iyer good length on off, tapped to short mid-on no run
16.21 Mohammed Shami to Ingram good length on leg stump, tucked off his pads to deep midwicket 1 run
16.11 Mohammed Shami to Iyer full outside off, Iyer guides it carefully to third man 1 run

End of Over No.16 Delhi Daredevils 136/3 Last Over (8 runs)

15.64 Viljoen to Ingram good shot, picked his spot. Back of a length, seemed to hold in the pitch again, but Ingram was in position to pull and does it by going over the in-field. Once bounce in the midwicket fence. He placed it where no fielder was there FOUR

Suneej: “Seeing the way how pant is getting dismissed in each and every match justifies why he wasnt picked for world cup. He literally throwing his wicket in most of the game which puts team under pressure. ”

15.61 Viljoen to Ingram loses his line, down legside. Wide 1 wide
15.51 Viljoen to Iyer full outside off, goes to drive but can only get it to long-on off the inside half of the bat 1 run
15.40 Viljoen to Iyer good length outside off, nudged to point. Ingram calls a loud ‘NO’ with Iyer taking a few steps down no run
15.31 Viljoen to Ingram angled into him from around the stumps, and pushed to cover. They set off for a quick single. There is a shy at the stumps but it misses. Might have been close 1 run
15.21 Viljoen to Iyer dug it into the pitch short outside off, doesn’t come on to the bat, he stays in his crease and slaps it to extra cover 1 run

Deja vu again. Perhaps, or not yet perhaps… Here’s Ingram

15.1W Viljoen to Pant caught by Curran at deep square leg. Could it be… could it be…? Tried to fetch a pull from outside off to a ball that didn’t really bounce all that much, ends up getting more height than distance. Curran has to merely take a few steps to get into position and gobble it up. OUT
RR Pant c Curran b Viljoen 6 (12m 7b 1×4 0x6) SR: 85.71

Srikanth: “On Mankading, dont understand the controversy. In a game of centimeters, how can the batsman be allowed an advantage of inches of headstart? Does the keeper give a warning before stumping?”

End of Over No.15 Delhi Daredevils 128/2 Last Over (10 runs)

14.64 Curran to Iyer clears his front leg and slashes it. Length ball on the stumps, wasn’t in perfect control but the thick edge takes it to the point boundary FOUR
