Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

6.23pm And that brings our coverage to an end. Hope you’ve enjoyed the game. There’s the dead rubber game coming up day after, between Ireland and Bangladesh, and after that the final. Be sure to keep joining us, and keep sending in your comments. Until next time, goodbye!

Mashrafe Mortaza: “The way we’re playing, I think we bowled really well. Didn’t start well, but luckily we got the breakthrough. In the middle part Mustafizur bowled well, and Shakib and Miraz too. Getting to the final was the most important thing. The boys are a bit relaxed, but two matches left, and we’ll go hard, and see how it goes in the final.”

Jason Holder: “Still not 100% in the field. We’ve definitely let ourselves down with our fielding right through the tournament. We just want to improve every time we step onto the field. We were a few runs short. I’m not one to look at the end result, we need to look at the processes and tighten up in all three departments.”

Mustafizur Rahman is the Player of the Match. No interview with him.

SrizanG: “@DWolfman that is a bit too harsh to say for Pollard, his experience is the most valuable asset beside fielding. Although, I agree picking him up solely on his IPL performance might not be a wise decision to make.”

AnamBMDF : “Love the way BD have defeated WI today: bowling department led by Mashrafe, the captain, with crucial wickets supported by Mustafiz and spinners and during batting, it’s a total team effort (all contribute significantly). If this is translated in WC, who knows what upsets are coming then? Good rehearsal for BD to face WI in the final of tri-nations trophy.”

Sanyat11: “This is exactly what it should be for Bangladesh. With the dependable five and the youngsters showing no fear… Bangladesh are going with fifteen Bengal Tigers for sure. ”

6.10pm Bangladesh have wrapped it up with 15 balls to spare, and they’ve confirmed their place in the final. A thoroughly professional chase from them, notwithstanding a couple of dismissals to uncalled-for shots. Each of their top six got to at least 20, and two of them got past the half-century mark. That’s pretty much what you need when you’re chasing 248. Not much of a wicket threat from any of the West Indies bowlers barring Ashley Nurse, who dismissed each of the three left-handers at the top of the order. Sheldon Cottrell seemed to get into a bit of rhythm by the end of the innings, which was a bit of a positive, but the two allrounders, Raymon Reifer and Fabian Allen, didn’t have very good games at all.

47.31 Cottrell to Sabbir Rahman bouncer down the leg side, and Sabbir ducks even though he’s well away from the firing line. It’s called wide, and that completes Bangladesh’s win 1 wide

Sabbir is on strike finally, with just one run needed.

47.21 Cottrell to Mahmudullah full on off stump, drives to deep point with an open face to level the scores 1 run
47.12 Cottrell to Mahmudullah overpitched, plenty of width, and Chase throws himself to his left on the point boundary to make sure Bangladesh have to wait for the winning shot 2 runs

End of Over No.47 Bngladesh 244/5 Last Over (4 runs)

46.61 Roach to Mahmudullah full on middle stump, this time he shows the full face and picks up a single to long-on to keep the strike 1 run
46.50 Roach to Mahmudullah fullish, angling in towards middle stump, clipped to midwicket no run

Just one hit away now.

46.42 Roach to Mahmudullah full, angling into the pads, clipped to the left of fine leg 2 runs
46.30 Roach to Mahmudullah full on middle stump, clipped to midwicket no run
46.31 Roach to Mahmudullah bouncer outside off, bounces well over head height and Mahmudullah has to abort his attempted hook 1 wide
46.20 Roach to Mahmudullah full, angling in towards off stump, defends towards midwicket no run

DWolfman: “Pollard has never been able to translate his T20 form into consistently credible 50 over performances. I would not pick him based on his IPL performances, in which he is free to supplement performances of class players rather than carry a more ordinary bunch. Besides the fielding, there is little else he can be expected to contribute.”

Sabbir Rahman comes in at No. 7.

46.1W Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim oh no, that wasn’t really necessary. Roach bowls this on a length, angling into the stumps, and Mushfiqur goes for the big lap-scoop. Middles it well enough, but he ends up picking out the man on the fine leg boundary OUT
Mushfiqur Rahim c Bravo b Roach 63 (73b 5×4 1×6) SR: 86.30

End of Over No.46 Bngladesh 240/4 Last Over (3 runs)

45.61 Cottrell to Mushfiqur Rahim back of a length on leg stump, worked to the right of deep square leg 1 run
45.50 Cottrell to Mushfiqur Rahim length ball, lots of width, Mushfiqur slashes at it without moving his feet, and fails to make contact no run
45.41 Cottrell to Mahmudullah on the legs now, tucked away to fine leg 1 run
45.30 Cottrell to Mahmudullah excellent short ball, angling across Mahmudullah’s body without getting too far away from him, and bouncing awkwardly, causing him to jump. Appeal for caught behind as Mahmudullah tries to get his gloves away from the line – I think he’s managed it just in time, and so does the umpire no run
45.20 Cottrell to Mahmudullah length ball close to off stump, hangs back and dabs to backward point with an open face no run

Sunny : “You give Bangladesh a score below 260, they will easily overcome that since they are used to that score in Mirpur. To challenge Bangladeshi batsmen, a score of 320 is a must.”

45.11 Cottrell to Mushfiqur Rahim fullish on off stump, driven to deep point 1 run

Just 11 to get now.

End of Over No.45 Bngladesh 237/4 Last Over (13 runs)

44.61 Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim short, angling into off stump, pulled to deep square leg 1 run
44.54 Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim slower ball, full and wide, and Mushfiqur gets on the front foot and thumps it over cover FOUR
44.42 Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim short, gets up near the right shoulder. An awkward place to pull from, and he ends up ballooning it in the air, over midwicket and to his left 2 runs
44.34 Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim and he celebrates with a glorious piece of timing. Looks for the yorker again, on off stump, but it ends up as a low full-toss, and Mushfiqur just meets it with a straight bat and sends it racing away to the boundary to the right of deep point FOUR
44.22 Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim slower short ball, sits up on off stump, pulled to the left of deep square leg to bring up a brilliantly paced fifty 2 runs

Stats Black: “Fabian Allen has bowled 29 overs in ODI cricket without a wicket. His List A figures aint appealing either. what is he doing in WI squad? Can someone tell me?”

44.10 Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim yorker on middle stump, jabbed back to the bowler no run

End of Over No.44 Bngladesh 224/4 Last Over (3 runs)

43.60 Cottrell to Mahmudullah loopy slower ball angling away into a sixth-stump line. Looks to open his bat face and steer it down to third man, sends it rolling to the keeper off the toe end no run
43.50 Cottrell to Mahmudullah full, close to off stump, shows the full face to punch to mid-off no run
43.40 Cottrell to Mahmudullah length ball angling away from off stump, presses forward and punches towards backward point no run
43.31 Cottrell to Mushfiqur Rahim slower ball, full on leg stump, clipped to long-on 1 run
43.21 Cottrell to Mahmudullah back of a length, fourth-stump line, punched crisply to the right of deep point 1 run
43.11 Cottrell to Mushfiqur Rahim in the blockhole on off stump, jabbed towards mid-off. Rolls slowly to the fielder and that gives them the time to hurry through for one 1 run

James: “The 1970’s and 80’s WI teams lead the world in fielding (Wasim Akram was joking to Michael Holding that his wickets should count double Michael’s because Pakistan dropped so many catches!). Shame some of the current side are so poor at it. Pollard would definitely improve that aspect.”

Andy: “I totally agree with you Chris. Pollard’s recent form warrants selection. Also, he is quietly showing that he saves his best performances for the big occasion. Check his scores in IPL finals. Pollard is a shoo-in for me!”

End of Over No.43 Bngladesh 221/4 Last Over (3 runs)

42.60 Roach to Mahmudullah shortish on off stump, blocked back to the bowler no run
42.51 Roach to Mushfiqur Rahim slower yorker on leg stump, clipped to deep square leg 1 run
