Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

6.37pm That’s all we have for you from this ODI series. On behalf of Akshay and Thilak, this is Saurabh signing off.

6.30pm And, Ross Taylor is the Man of the Match: “You get nervous at the start of every innings but it helps having played 100 games. I’m just trying to keep things simple and not think too much when I go out there. We’ve done the donkey work through the middle and put the icing on the cake at the end. Henry Nicholls batted outstandingly well. He made my job a lot easier, was busy and set the tone from ball one. I’m sure it’ll be one of many hundreds to come for him.”

Lasith Malinga: “After the first 30-35 overs, the last 15 overs are not going well. We have time to work that out before the World Cup. We still need to improve our middle order batting. I feel that before the next tournament, they will adjust to the conditions and learn. I think Thisara and Kusal did a very good job. I’m a bit disappointed with the bowling, we have to improve in the end 15 overs. This is the second time I’m leading the team and I’ve really enjoyed it because I’ve played a lot of cricket with them. I have to enjoy with t hem and pass on my knowledge to them.”

Kane Williamson: “The improvement seen throughout the series (is what I enjoyed most). Today’s performance was a step up from the first two matches from a bowling perspective. We have been under pressure at various points and responded well. It’s been a testing series. Fantastic hundred from Rossco and Henry Nicholls came in and finished it brilliantly. It’s been very good to see guys come out and execute their roles. We need to keep doing that again, we have another series coming up. (World Cup) hopefully we’re getting answers to a few things. As a group I think you just want to keep improving.”

6.22pm The first two matches were close thanks to Sri Lanka finding a batsman who stood up and took New Zealand on. That perhaps masked their overall weakness. When that didn’t happen today, save for Thisara again today though they were chasing a much bigger total, they unravelled quickly. This is as comprehensive as a win gets, and the 3-0 scoreline doesn’t flatter New Zealand either. They were clearly the better team. Hang around and we’ll have the presentations for you.

41.4 W Sodhi to Pradeep all over that is that and New Zealand have sealed a 3-0 sweep. The wrong ‘un did it again. Went down to sweep, this had pitched outside off and spun in a fair bit, under the bat and hit the stumps. No late resistance from Sri Lanka this time, with New Zealand wrapping up the tail quickly through Ferguson and Sodhi. OUT
N Pradeep b Sodhi 0 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00
41.3 0 Sodhi to Pradeep bowled from wide of the crease, drifting in, pitches on middle and turns, but he defends it well no run

slip in place.

41.2 0 Sodhi to Pradeep tossed up, drifting on leg and turning, defended into the leg side no run
41.1 W Sodhi to Malinga this is ending quickly typical tailender’s dismissal. Came down the track more with hope than conviction, had an almighty swing at it, hoping to deposit over cow corner. Didn’t read the wrong ‘un at all, comprehensively beaten as it snuck in between the yawning gap between bat and pad, and Tim Seifert has an easy stumping to make. OUT
SL Malinga st †Seifert b Sodhi 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Samrat Ahuja: “Really impressed by Lockie! He is slowly but surely becoming a decent limited overs bowler with his around the wicket short balls barrage to right handed batsmen, targeting their ribs! ” – with his pace, if he gets his radar right, he’ll be a threat against any opposition, on any surface

End of Over No.41 Sri Lanka 249/8 Last Over (1 run)

40.6 0 Ferguson to Sandakan wide yorker outside off, he has an airy waft at it and doesn’t connect no run
40.5 W Ferguson to Gunathilaka too pacy full, fast and straight at middle stump. He was rooted to the crease and the bat came down very late. By the time it was down, the stumps had been broken. Fourth wicket for Lockie OUT
MD Gunathilaka b Ferguson 31 (52b 1×4 0x6) SR: 59.61
40.4 0 Ferguson to Gunathilaka speared in on a fuller length, defended back no run
40.3 0 Ferguson to Gunathilaka oooh that has just missed the stumps looked like a slower ball, he defends it from the crease, the ball drops down and bounces over the stumps no run

SteveB: “The interesting thing is, if you’d presented Sri Lanka yesterday with the option of Guptill out for 2, both openers on 31 & KW out for 55, they would have jumped at it and been grateful, with an eye towards total victory. But NZ have been in control of this match!”

40.2 W Ferguson to Chameera soft dismissal, taken at cover easily. He had to go for it with the asking rate climbing, big heave to a length ball that was going across him, takes the leading edge and spoons up for a dolly of a catch. OUT
PVD Chameera c Southee b Ferguson 1 (8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 12.50
40.2 1 Ferguson to Chameera another bouncer, but too far down leg that time and it’ll be a wide 1 wide
40.1 0 Ferguson to Chameera short ball, on leg stump, forces him to duck under it no run

Thanks Akshay.

End of Over No.40 Sri Lanka 248/6 Last Over (3 runs)

Thisara’s gone, but can SL still make something out of the game? Seems unlikely at the moment, but Saurabh’s here to tell you. Over and out from me.

39.6 1 Henry to Chameera short of a length, jags away, stabbed through point 1 run
39.5 0 Henry to Chameera sticks the bat outside off and gets beaten no run
39.4 0 Henry to Chameera short of length, opens the face to point no run
39.4 1 Henry to Chameera short, gets under it. Called wide for height 1 wide
39.3 0 Henry to Chameera full outside off, dug out to point no run
39.2 0 Henry to Chameera ducks under a short ball no run

Aaron: “@elwarko and just three balls later… ‘I see red, I see red, I see red!'”

39.1 1 Henry to Gunathilaka runs it down to third man for one 1 run

End of Over No.39 Sri Lanka 245/6 Last Over (2 runs)

38.6 0 Ferguson to Chameera pushed across off from around the wicket, drilled to point no run

Saleem: “Yes friend, @elwarko, Good Night.”

38.5 1 Ferguson to Gunathilaka short of a length, arches back and runs it down to third man 1 run

kushansri: “At leaat im happy to see that they are fighting.. thats something lack of this sri lankan side in the past few years…. ”

38.4 0 Ferguson to Gunathilaka back of a length, swings loosely and misses no run
38.3 W Ferguson to NLTC Perera what a catch! Guptill pulls off a one-handed stunner! New Zealand make amends for the earlier lapses. Thisara backs away to this short one and slashes at it but with not enough room to free up his arms, can’t really clear the in-field. Actually, would have if there was an ordinary fielder stationed there. Guptill’s just a beast. Runs back from point and sticks the left hand out while leaping back to pluck it out of thin air. Thisara won’t hurt NZ as bad this time OUT
NLTC Perera c Guptill b Ferguson 80 (63b 7×4 3×6) SR: 126.98
38.2 0 Ferguson to NLTC Perera no run
38.1 1 Ferguson to Gunathilaka short, pulled to deep midwicket 1 run

elwarko: “History never repeats. I tell myself before I go to sleep.”

End of Over No.38 Sri Lanka 243/5 Last Over (7 runs)

37.6 0 Henry to NLTC Perera full outside off, laces a drive to extra cover who dives and stops it no run
37.5 0 Henry to NLTC Perera short, tries to ramp it over and misses no run
37.4 4 Henry to NLTC Perera that’s a stunning shot! Backs away to a length ball and just brings the wrists down in one swooping motion to stab it over short third man. Brilliant! FOUR
37.4 1 Henry to NLTC Perera pushed far too across, making him reach outside off 1 wide
37.3 0 Henry to NLTC Perera short, tries to ramp it over but gets tucked up no run
37.2 1 Henry to Gunathilaka full, flicked behind square leg 1 run

Around this time in the second ODI, New Zealand had dropped a rash of catches while Thisara Perera teed off. Is history repeating itself?

Who will Win Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand, 3rd ODI: New Zealand v Sri Lanka ?

With ten nearly equally matched groups, the importance of every game can’t be understated in this tournament. Both sides are expected to emerge out packaged full-strength against each other in what claims to be a cracker of a competition. Contemplating that the 2 sides on newspaper,Sri Lanka are somewhat more power-packed unit whereas New Zealand possess the benefit of being a steady side. For this and another above-mentioned motives, we believe the Sri Lanka are far more likely to emerge victorious in what will be among the most crucial experiences for either side.
