Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

7pm So, that’s your lot for this evening. England have their first series win of 2019 … which is something. Thanks for your comments, join us again on Sunday for the final act of this Caribbean Odyssey.

Eoin Morgan: “Our biggest improvement has been that we’ve adapted to conditions very well. Backs against the wall at 30 for 4, the partnership was outstanding, and we grabbed hold of momentum. We’ve got to keep on learning, we have improvements to make going into the final game in two days’ time.”

On the near-collision with Willey in the outfield: “We’re lucky to come out unscathed, and with the catch as well.”

Sam Billings is Player of the Match for his innings-saving 87. “It was a nice situation that I could give myself some time, then cash in at the end. A strong bottom hand and close your eyes! Play the field and put pressure on the bowlers by hitting 360. It came off today. It was a matter of getting a partnership together, with small boundaries, two blokes together going into the last five… There’s been lots to play for as a team, and as individuals going into a World Cup year.”

6.51pm Right, let’s have some presentations. Here’s Jason Holder. “It’s one of those games, it’s been our worst batting performance, but we’ve had more good days than England in this series [Tests and ODIs included]. The energy in the field was excellent, the last four overs we didn’t execute our skills as we would have liked. We’ve got to get ourselves attuned to the T20 game. There’s still pride to play for, the whole purpose of keeping this squad together was to build towards the World Cup.”

On Nurse’s injury, “he went for a scan on his finger. We’ll see.”

6.49pm Salim Ullah Kha: “Holder has no justification to be part of T20 squad. Brathwaite also needs a replacement. Chris Gayle deserves a better opening than SD Hope.” Perhaps. But that’s not really the pressing issue right now. There’s a 50-over World Cup looming, and keeping the team together is probably more relevant than this slightly spurious series!

6.42pm So, England wrap up their biggest victory in T20I history, all 14 years of it. And it is largely thanks to two very fringe candidates for their World Cup permutations. Sam Billings’ belligerent 87, his highest England score, rescued England from 32 for 4, then Chris Jordan, with four wickets for six runs, put the series beyond West Indies’ reach. England lead 2-0, with the final match to come here on Sunday night.

Andrew: “That was almost like watching an oz batting collapse in the ashes… ”

Bilal Ahmed: “David Beckham with the band and now David Willey. They might just work on Davids. I can recall Dinda from India wearing one of those yet he was always taken to the cleaners. Hence my theory on David and bands is proved”

11.5 W Plunkett to Bishoo flashed high and hard into the covers, Billings takes a fine catch running back, and that is emphatically that! OUT
D Bishoo c Billings b Plunkett 8 (20b 1×4 0x6) SR: 40.00
11.4 . Plunkett to Bishoo banged in short, well directed, as Bishoo ducks no run
11.3 4 Plunkett to Bishoo back of a length, slapped through mid-on! Every little helps FOUR

West Indies have avoided an all-time T20 record, but there’s a full member low up for grabs …

11.2 . Plunkett to Bishoo fenced to the off side once more no run
11.1 . Plunkett to Bishoo a full-faced punch into the covers no run

End of Over No.11 Windies 41/9 Last Over (2 runs)

10.6 . Rashid to McCoy slides off the back pad, into the hands of leg slip, but no bat on that one no run
10.5 1 Rashid to Bishoo tucked to midwicket 1 run
10.4 1 Rashid to McCoy slapped heartily out to deep cover, plugs just out of reach of the encroaching Jordan 1 run
10.3 . Rashid to McCoy a slip and a leg slip, as McCoy waves his bat at a big googly, as if seeing it off from Southampton Dock no run
10.2 . Rashid to McCoy slides past the outside edge! Cottrell knows nothing about this no run
10.1 W Rashid to Cottrell zipped through the gate, and back goes the middle stump! Well, hello the second ten overs. This could be brief … lovely length, utterly bamboozled OUT
SS Cottrell b Rashid 2 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

End of Over No.10 Windies 39/8 Last Over (2 runs)

Well, you never know what’s going to happen in T20… But I think England are favourites. Here’s Miller to polish things off

9.6 . Plunkett to Bishoo shortish, punched off the back foot to cover no run
9.5 1 Plunkett to Cottrell banged in and he fends it away entirely unconvincingly, off the bat handle into the leg side and Bishoo calls him through 1 run

Two slips for Cottrell

“Alan, dare I say the headband is good luck?” I think you’ve dared, James. I suppose it worked for David Beckham…

9.4 1 Plunkett to Bishoo back of a length on the body, nudged down to fine leg for one 1 run
9.3 . Plunkett to Bishoo short ball, 130kph/81mph and Bishoo defends to the leg side no run
9.2 . Plunkett to Bishoo digs in the bouncer, ducked skittishly no run
9.1 . Plunkett to Bishoo back of a length, angled across outside off, Bishoo dangles his bat no run

End of Over No.9 Windies 37/8 Last Over (2 runs)

“WI need Sammy right now,” opines Bilal Ahmed. “He won his team the match after they were 20/5. Not to forget Misbah’s effort though. The old stallion did 70% of the work along with Sammy.” They certainly did… Athough 35-8 is quite a lot worse off than 20-5

8.6 1 Rashid to Bishoo another googly, on leg stump and paddled through backward square leg for one 1 run
8.5 . Rashid to Bishoo tossed up and he works across the line, gets a low leading edge no run
8.4 . Rashid to Bishoo quicker, the googly spinning away as Bishoo stays back, through to the keeper no run
8.3 . Rashid to Bishoo stays over the wicket, tossed up on off stump and blocked into the covers no run

“Dispatching the Windies is a breeze,” snorts Jack Jefferson

8.2 1 Rashid to Cottrell floated up and driven down the ground 1 run
8.1 . Rashid to Cottrell pushed through, legbreak on leg stump and nudged away no run

End of Over No.8 Windies 35/8 Last Over (2 runs)

7.6 . Plunkett to Bishoo short of a length on off stump, defended by Bishoo no run

Out comes Sheldon Cottrell. It’s all gone a bit Pete Tong for the home side!

7.5 W Plunkett to Hetmyer short ball, huuuuuuuuuuuuge top edge… taken at the third attempt! Willey scurried in and got underneath it at square leg, the ball squirmed out and then he juggled it as he fell, before finally coming to a rest on his backside with the ball on his lap! That’s Hetmyer gone, and West Indies in serious danger of being bowled out inside 10 overs here OUT
SO Hetmyer c Willey b Plunkett 10 (11b 1×4 0x6) SR: 90.90
7.4 1 Plunkett to Bishoo dug in, 136kph/85mph on the hip and worked down to fine leg 1 run
7.3 . Plunkett to Bishoo short and nipping away as Bishoo feels for it and is beaten no run

“What’s the lowest total in T20Is? And best bowling figures?” Still need a few more to get past Netherlands’ low-water mark, Deshan Bodha

7.2 . Plunkett to Bishoo back of a length around the line of off, defended no run

Slip in for Bishoo

7.1 1 Plunkett to Hetmyer full on leg stump, 141kph/88mph to start with, clipped through square to the sweeper 1 run

Liam Plunkett replaces Jordan, who has 4 for 6

End of Over No.7 Windies 33/7 Last Over (8 runs)

“Windies have been universally bossed!” hoots Joe Bloggs

6.6 . Rashid to Bishoo pushes through a googly from over the wicket, Bishoo drops back on off and blocks no run

Devendra Bishoo heads out. I wonder if he’s ever batter this early in an innings?
