Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

End of Over No.18 Kolkata Knight Riders 185/3 Last Over (19 runs)

11:46pm And that is all from us. Good night!

Gill: Feels big, MOTM award in my home ground. It was important to build partnerships. When I was batting 80-90 strike rate the team was doing well. That’s when I decided to bat till the end. My whole family was there, even some relatives from the village. It was good to play here. I’m still trying to figure out my game in T20s.

Shubman Gill is the Man of the Match.

Karthik: We live another day. We’ve been fighting, it’s been a hard couple of weeks. [On the angry team talkj] I wasn’t happy with the body language. The kind of things I didn’t expect from them. I’m not too into the results, just the processes. So I had to let the boys know what I thought. [Sheepishly] I think it’s a bit rare. I should be true to myself. If I show that and it gets the best out of them, so be it.

In the last over, we gave ten runs too many. But gotta give credit to Curran. At the end of the day the IPL’s beauty is that all team’s have good balance and someone is always coming up here and there. It’s a big ground but I think we did the small things well. We ran well, we put pressure, so it was good execution from the batsmen.

[Gill] is a terrific player, it was only fair we gave him a run at the top of the order. He’d been looking for it.

Lynn: [On Karthik] Yeah he lost his marbles there! Yeah no, that’s DK. we’ve learnt to live with that over the last couple of weeks. We repsonded well as a group and took some wickets. Didn’t hold that of Curran and he got the better of us, but again we were clinical with the bat. It was a good wicket but momentum is important in cricket and we grabbed that with the bat. We knew it was good conditions. Shubman was unbelievable. I’m not much of a cricket watcher to be honest but I’ll be glued to the TV tomorrow [for the SRH match]. We can only think of what we can control and that is winning against Mumbai.

Ashwin: Tt’s been sort of a par and par-plus score. Generally we’ve defended scores like this, but it was a good track today. It was one of those things. It can go the other way. We bowled well in the first three overs but Lynny took it away from us. Positives for us with respect to Pooran and Sam. We all know he’s [Curran’s] got the ability and fight in him.

11:30pm Well, that looked simple. Didn’t it? KKR looked beleaguered at the halfway stage, but this is a good lesson for everyone, including myself, in gauging mood from afar. Lynn came out like he’d just remembered his reputation and blew this defence away early for Kings XI. They just couldn’t rememeber. And once again this season, Gill made use of his opportunity with a neat little unbeaten knock. The situation now for Punjab: They need to win their next match by 160 runs and hope SRH lose tomorrow by 100 runs. Yeahhhhhh.

17.6 4 Curran to Karthik seals the win with two overs to spare! Full and into the pads. Stays still and whips at it. Looks like a slight inside edge onto pad before it sprints to the fine boundary FOUR
17.5 6 Curran to Karthik clears square leg! Short ball at leg stump, angled into him and he uses the angle to pump this over the fielder SIX
17.4 2 Curran to Karthik short and wide outside off, cut to third man’s right 2 runs
17.4 1 Curran to Karthik bouncer just outside off, left alone 1 wide
17.3 4 Curran to Karthik off the outside edge but there might have been intent to do exactly that from Karthik. Yorker length just outside off, jams the bat down on it and past the keeper FOUR
17.2 1 Curran to Shubman Gill slower ball, short of a length outside off. Pulled to long-on 1 run
17.1 1 Curran to Karthik full at off stump, driven down to long-on 1 run

End of Over No.17 Kolkata Knight Riders 166/3 Last Over (9 runs)

16.6 1 Tye to Karthik slower ball at a length on off stump, driven on the up to mid-off 1 run
16.5 1 Tye to Shubman Gill length at middle stump, punched to long-on 1 run
16.4 4 Tye to Shubman Gill short-arm whip. Lovely. Length and climbing up at the body. Stays behind the line and deposits this between deep midwicket and long-on FOUR
16.3 1 Tye to Karthik low full toss on leg stump, flicked to deep square 1 run
16.2 1 Tye to Shubman Gill length on middle stump, flicked to midwicket’s left 1 run
16.1 1 Tye to Karthik length on leg stump, looks to flick, gets it into the leg side via the thigh guard 1 run

End of Over No.16 Kolkata Knight Riders 157/3 Last Over (6 runs)

Time out.

15.6 2 Curran to Shubman Gill length on leg stump, flicked to deep midwicket 2 runs
15.5 . Curran to Shubman Gill slower short ball wide outside off, looks to cut and is beaten no run
15.4 . Curran to Shubman Gill slower ball short and wide outside off. Under-edge on the cut to point no run
15.3 2 Curran to Shubman Gill full and in at leg stump. Flicked to deep square 2 runs
15.2 1 Curran to Karthik slower ball at a length on off stump, dragged out to deep square 1 run
15.1 1 Curran to Shubman Gill length outside off, punched on the up to extra cover 1 run

End of Over No.15 Kolkata Knight Riders 151/3 Last Over (6 runs)

14.6 1 Mohammed Shami to Shubman Gill yorker at leg stump, looks to flick, cops it on the pad. Short fine cleans up 1 leg bye

Bills : “14.5, how many fielders were in there the circle? πŸ˜‰ ”

Morvin Willians: “With all the opinions about who should be on each of the different teams for world cup if that were to happen each country would have had to field three and four teams. Thank goodness it is just left to a few good men to decide!”

14.5 W Mohammed Shami to Russell taken at deep square! Short and into the body once again. Russell finally connects on the pull. But it’s not ideal connection. Slices it. Big ground. And he won’t clear it OUT
AD Russell c Tye b Mohammed Shami 24 (23m 14b 2×4 2×6) SR: 171.42
14.4 . Mohammed Shami to Russell short and in at the body. Backs away for the cut and is beaten no run
14.3 4 Mohammed Shami to Russell whack. A word invented precisely for when this man stretches his arms at a length ball wide outside off. Fizzes past extra cover FOUR
14.2 . Mohammed Shami to Russell no run

Hemraj: “Too much push up and pull up takes a toll on your wrists, i can tell from personal experience.” — Humblebrag Hemraj

14.1 1 Mohammed Shami to Shubman Gill length at leg stump, nudged down to fine leg with the angle 1 run

Here’s Shami. Only wickets on Ashwin’s mind now.

End of Over No.14 Kolkata Knight Riders 145/2 Last Over (17 runs)

And Russell has a problem with his wrist again. Happened once against CSK, remember. Physio is out.

13.6 6 Tye to Russell dropped! And he might have tipped it into the boundary padding too! Mayank at long-off. Full ball outside off, gets low and drills it flat. He’s inside by quite a bit and gets his hands on this, but it floats and lands on the padding. Oh boy SIX
13.5 . Tye to Russell bouncer at an off stump line. Ducks under it no run

He’s over the wicket now by the way

13.4 . Tye to Russell full and wide outside off. Chucks his hands at this and is beaten no run

MGR: “I think Pollard should be in that WI team.” — Good shout.

13.4 1 Tye to Russell bouncer. Dug in too short. Left alone 1 wide
13.3 6 Tye to Russell see ya! Here we go. Attempted yorker turns into a full toss on leg stump. Russell gets the front leg into the leg side, about a yard. Then he carts this over midwicket, about a billion yards SIX
