End of Over No.20 113/10 This Over (wicket maiden)

10.27pm This was the ninth meeting between these two sides, and the eighth victory for the Renegades. For the first 18 overs of this game the Thunder were utterly dominant, but that man Cameron Boyce played a sensational match-turning innings, an unbeaten 51 off 22, and suddenly the Renegades had a more than decent total to defend. Pretty disappointing chase from the Thunder, apart from their debutant keeper Baxter Holt, in batting conditions that actually seemed to have improved.

So the Renegades move up to 16 points, solidifying their bid for a semi-finals spot. They have just one league match to go now, against the table-topping Hobart Hurricanes. Lots of twists and turns left in this season, and we’ll bring you all of them. Do keep tuning in. Until next time, good night!

19.1 W Boyce to Fawad Ahmed and, appropriately enough, he’s the man to end it. Fawad steps out, and he fires it wide. Beats the desperate reach-out drive, and Harper does the rest OUT
Fawad Ahmed st †Harper b Boyce 1 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

The Renegades made 39 off their last two overs. The Thunder now need 28 off their last over. Here’s Boyce, appropriately enough

End of Over No.19 113/9 This Over (4 runs)

18.6 1 Gurney to Fawad Ahmed back of a length outside off. Looks to dab it behind point, only manages an inside edge into the leg side 1 run

Round the wicket to Fawad.

18.5 1 Gurney to Sandhu another slower ball, slapped down to long-off 1 run
18.4 1 Gurney to Fawad Ahmed slower ball, back of a length, looks for the lap-sweep and only manages to get his thigh pad on it. Rolls away into the backward square leg region 1 leg bye
18.3 W Gurney to Sandhu slower length ball, leg-stumpish. Looks to flick, and only manages to edge into his pad. And that’s followed by a collision and a run-out. Both batsmen were converging on the same side of the pitch, and Gurney was also moving in that direction to get to the ball. He manages to sneak between the two batsmen, and ends up unsighting both of them. They collide, leaving Cook sprawled on the pitch, and he picks up the ball and completes the run out at the keeper’s end OUT
JD Cook run out 2 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00
18.2 1 Gurney to Cook slower ball, quite full, on off stump, swiped away through square leg 1 run
18.1 0 Gurney to Cook right up there on middle and leg, jabbed firmly back to the bowler no run

Gurney to bowl the 18th.

What a spell from Christian: four overs, 1 for 9.

End of Over No.18 109/8 This Over (2 runs)

17.6 1 Christian to Cook looks for the dipping yorker, ends up as a low full-toss on the legs, and Cook clips it to short fine leg 1 run
17.5 0 Christian to Cook in the blockhole once more. Looks to flick and all he manages is an inside-edge into his pads no run

Jonathan Cook.

17.4 W Christian to Sams boom, off stump pegged back. Full offcutter, and it’s too full for the cleared-front-leg big hit over the leg side. Past the inside edge and it’s bye bye Daniel Sams OUT
DR Sams b Christian 10 (13b 1×4 0x6) SR: 76.92
17.3 1 Christian to Sandhu another yorker angling across the left-hander, also the slower one this time. Swipes at it, looking to go leg side, and misses, but there’s enough time to steal a bye 1 bye
17.2 0 Christian to Sandhu in the blockhole just outside off, jabs at it and misses no run
17.1 0 Christian to Sandhu back of a length slower ball, slanting away from off stump. Looks to make room and cut, misses no run

34 off the last three. That’s doable with wickets in hand, but the Thunder are seven down. Here’s Christian, from right-arm over to Sandhu.

End of Over No.17 107/7 This Over (5 runs)

16.6 0 Gurney to Sams slower length ball wide of off stump, slapped straight to point no run

Round the wicket.

16.5 0 Gurney to Sams stays back to a length ball slanting away from off stump, looks for the old-fashioned late cut. Can’t make contact no run
16.4 1 Gurney to Sandhu full, close to off stump, whipped to long-on 1 run
16.4 1 Gurney to Sandhu short, wide, off-pace. Keeps low, barely gets to Sandhu on the first bounce, and it also leaves him off the pitch. No way he can connect with that cut 1 wide
16.3 2 Gurney to Sandhu slower ball, back of a length outside off. The left-handed Sandhu lets it come on and guides it down to third man 2 runs

Gurinder Sandhu is the new man. Can he make this interesting?

16.2 1 Gurney to Sams slower one wide of off stump, slapped off the front foot to the left of sweeper cover 1 run
16.1 W Gurney to Jordan England 1, England 0. It’s full, outside off, and he clears his front leg and hammers a big drive down the ground, but straight to the man at long-off OUT
CJ Jordan c Christian b Gurney 1 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Gurney to Jordan.

End of Over No.16 102/6 This Over (7 runs)

15.6 4 Richardson to Sams full outside off, he didn’t miss the yorker by much, but it’s a few inches short of the blockhole, and that gives Sams just enough swinging room to absolutely hammer it to the cover boundary FOUR
15.5 1 Richardson to Jordan length ball wide of off stump, Jordan gets forward for the flat-bat drive to sweeper cover 1 run
15.4 1 Richardson to Sams in the blockhole on off stump, jabbed along the ground to long-off 1 run

Chris Jordan is in at No. 8, with the Thunder needing 45 off 27.

Dez: “Australia should send their U19’s to the World Cup this year – lots of them shining in BBL08.”

15.3 W Richardson to Holt short ball outside off, a fair way outside off, and Holt, trying to drag it from there and pull, can only hit it down the throat of deep square leg. An innings of promise from a really promising player OUT
BJ Holt c Tremain b Richardson 37 (28b 1×4 3×6) SR: 132.14
15.2 0 Richardson to Holt slower one, back of a length, and Holt, stepping away into the off side and looking for the scoop over fine leg, can’t connect with the ball no run
15.1 1 Richardson to Sams full outside off, too full for elevation down the ground. Looks to swipe it leg side and inside-edges into his front leg 1 run

Kane Richardson comes back into the attack. No sign of Nabi at all. Is he carrying some sort of injury?

End of Over No.15 95/5 This Over (5 runs)

14.6 0 Gurney to Holt in the blockhole, just outside off, digs it out, back to the bowler no run
14.5 1 Gurney to Sams short outside off, slapped into the cover point region 1 run
14.4 1 Gurney to Holt short slower ball outside off, pulled away through square leg 1 run

Stays over the wicket now.

14.3 1 Gurney to Sams full on leg stump, they take the single even though he flicks this straight to short fine leg. Was on his heels a little, so they do it comfortably enough 1 run

Over the wicket to Sams.
