Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

3.17pm That’s all from us at ESPNcricinfo. Hope you enjoyed our coverage of the first T20I. On behalf of Saurabh Somani, this is Sreshth Shah signing off.

3.10pm The presentation should begin soon.

Carlos Brathwaite, the winning captain: “Very very good win, but it’s only one game. We won the first game in the Caribbean too, but we lost the series. So we need to be respectful of the series. While we celebrate the victory, work is not done. Very pleased with the bat. Wanted to be aggressive, wanted to overpower them as I said in the toss. It doesn’t always happen. Some days we can easily be 30 for 3, but this is how we want to play, so when things are going up, you go for it. This is a template. Dhaka will be slower, and Bangladesh are a top international team, so all hands on deck for the next two games.”

Sheldon Cottrell is the Man of the Match. He says, “Was definitely not easy. We had to be smart with the ball. Oshane executed well in the first six. Bangladesh did play some poor shots, but we did bowl well. I’m a solider back in Jamaica, so it’s a way to show my appreciation for them.”

Shakib Al Hasan, the losing captain: “Everything went wrong today other than the toss. We didn’t bat well and didn’t bowl well. It was a good surface, we should’ve scored atleast 175. You must ask the other batsmen why they didn’t bat well. I can’t answer for everyone. As I said, nothing worked out today. Whatever we did, it didn’t click. A lot to learn from this game.”

3.03pm Utter domination from the world’s T20 champions. They’ve done it in 10.5 overs, that’s absolutely incredible from the West Indies batsmen. Bangladesh don’t look too upset. Smiles from Shakib. He knows that the visitors have humbled them today, and he’s taken his cap off for that performance from WI. Brathwaite leads out the Windies and he’s congratulated by the Bangladeshi boys. A great attitude to cricket today from both sides.

Shai Hope’s 23-ball 55 set the tone in the Powerplay. He struck the 3rd fastest fifty in T20I cricket to rattle Bangladesh early. After that a 32-run stand between Pooran (17-ball 23) and Paul (14-ball 28) ensured that the visitors won the game without even breaking a set. Four Bangladesh bowlers conceded more than 13 per over. Shakib went for 8.35, Mahmudullah a respectable 6.5. Who will the Man of the Match be? Will it be Cottrell for his four-wicket haul, or will it be Hope for his marvellous knock. Stick around for the presentation to find out.

Nader Abbas: “Windies are undisputed king of T20 cricket.I mean look at the how many explosive batters like Gayle, Bravo, Lewis, Hope, Hetmyer, Smith, Brathwaite few names from long list are on the scene around the world t20 leagues. When they are in ball does not want to come back in the ground.”

10.51 Shakib Al Hasan to Paul full on leg, and tapped away to the leg side. West Indies win by eight wickets and 55 balls to spare! 1 leg bye
10.44 Shakib Al Hasan to Paul full on off, and turning away from Paul. Looks to drag a shot behind square on the leg side, but the toe-ended shot takes it to deep midwicket instead. Beats wide long on and the scores are now tied FOUR
10.36 Shakib Al Hasan to Paul full outside leg stump, but Paul backs away – exposing all three stumps – and then slogs over cow corner for half-a-dozen more! Plays the shot from near the end of the pitch. That’s how wide he went to play the shot SIX

Mashur: “To the ppl who have started judging BD’s T20 ability: You can’t judge it basing on one game. Don’t forget BD won the T20 series against them on their soil earlier this year. BD lost the 1st game too then and bounced back in the next two games to win the series. So, BD fans, just chill & let’s look for the next two games. It’s not just our day. It happens in cricket.”

10.26 Shakib Al Hasan to Paul full on middle, and Paul skips down the ground and then absolutely golf-swings a shot over Shakib’s head! With disdain, and in total control. Ninety-six metres, would ya believe it SIX
10.10 Shakib Al Hasan to Paul length ball on off stump, and turning away from Paul. Tapped away to point no run

9.56 Mahmudullah to Paul good length outside off stump, but this in Keemo Paul’s arc! Backs away, rocks back, and then absolutely hammers a slogged shot over the long-on boundary SIX
9.40 Mahmudullah to Paul lower-arm delivery from Mahmudullah. Paul looks to play a deft late cut, but straight to short third man no run
9.30 Mahmudullah to Paul good length on middle, and fended off the back foot to the off side no run
9.21 Mahmudullah to Pooran full just outside off, and defended towards cover for a quick single. Lbw appeal from Mahmudullah but not given. They consider reviewing, but they don’t. 1 run

8.51 Shakib Al Hasan to Pooran full on middle, and he muscles a straight drive past the non-striker to long off 1 run
8.40 Shakib Al Hasan to Pooran full on middle, and sliding across the left-handed Pooran. Tried to fend, but the ball went into the keeper’s gloves no run
8.31 Shakib Al Hasan to Paul full on middle, and Paul walks down the wicket to drive to long on. Gives the strike back to NP 1 run

Donald: “The Tv commentators are referring to Pooran as a T20 specialist. Nonsense. Not his fault he has only been given the opportunity in T20s but he’s taken that oprtunity and done well. He should be a regular in the ODI team. He is a proper batsman with extreme talent. In fact this T20 team should have been the ODI team on this tour.”

8.21 Shakib Al Hasan to Pooran length ball outside off, and he backs away to cut square. Protection in the deep 1 run
8.11 Shakib Al Hasan to Paul full on off, and he clears the front leg to slog. Mistimed to midwicket.100 for West Indies in just 49 legal balls! 1 run

End of Over No.8 Windies 99/2 Last Over (4 runs)

7.60 Mahmudullah to Pooran full just outside off, and steered to point. Pooran says no to the run no run

Arjav: “Such is the situation of WI cricket. If a player does well like the way Hope and Hetmyer, instead of feeling happy, they start worrying if they will loose these talents to Global leagues around the world. I hope they remain available across format in future for WI.”

7.51 Mahmudullah to Paul full on off, and tapped away to square leg. Gets off the mark 1 run

Keemo Paul at No. 4

7.4W Mahmudullah to Hope full and wide outside off, and that’s been struck straight to the fielder at deep extra cover! Not off the bat’s sweet spot, and easily done by Fizz near the boundary. A strike-rate of almost 240 for Hope. OUT
SD Hope c Mustafizur Rahman b Mahmudullah 55 (23b 3×4 6×6) SR: 239.13

PrashantBanjare: “Hope can do the job what Virat Kohli does for India…Even great Brian Lara said these words last month during the India tour”

7.31 Mahmudullah to Pooran good length outside off, and he backs away to cut. To Liton at deep extra cover 1 run
7.20 Mahmudullah to Pooran full on middle, and reverse swept to short third man no run

Sadman: “Nothing extra-ordinary from WI. Just poor performance in all department of BD. They are way behind in this form of cricket.”

7.12 Mahmudullah to Pooran full on middle stump, and he gets down on one knee, before paddling a shot fine past the fielder at short fine leg 2 runs

End of Over No.7 Windies 95/1 Last Over (4 runs)

6.61 Shakib Al Hasan to Pooran good length outside off, and flat-batted to deep extra cover 1 run

With ten nearly equally matched groups, the importance of every game can’t be understated in this tournament. Both sides are expected to emerge out packaged full-strength against each other in what claims to be a cracker of a competition. Contemplating that the 2 sides on newspaper,West Indies are somewhat more power-packed unit whereas Bangladesh possess the benefit of being a steady side.
