Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

9:18pm And that is all from us tonight. See you again for the final T20I.

Warner: It’s fantastic. Credit goes to our bowlers for being disciplined on this pitch. The boys hit their length rights and we tried to push them on the back foot and play cross-bat shots. I’ve been hitting them as well as i can in the nets but at the end of the day, it’s what you do in the middle that counts. It’s fantastic batting with Smith again. What I do know is we’re going to run a lot.

David Warner is the Man of the Match.

Finch: It was pretty clinical, it was a nice game. The way we started with the ball, we set the tone. The way Steve and Davey went about it was world class. At the end of the day, the bowler is acocuntable for the ball he delivers, that makes my job easy. They’ve taken that onus over the last 12 months. Makes a difference having two of the best players in the world available. Their knowledge of the game, the amount they’ve played around the world. We’re still fifth in the world, we want to get that going in the right direction and maybe look at some combinations [next match] as well.

Malinga: They’re a tough side. It’s not a tough score for this kind of a batting line up. Batsmen have to show responsibility. Those seven batsmen need to bat 20 overs. It’s a good bowling line-up but still, shot selection wasn’t great. They didn’t get any partnerships in the middle. The only positive is that it counts as preparation for the World Cup. We’ve to go home and think about how to deal with these conditions. We want to win one match here. The young team will get confidence.

9:05pm Australia go up 2-0, which means they’ve sealed a series win with seven overs to spare. Nothing really improved for Sri Lanka today. The difference in quality was just as wide as it was in the first game. The decisions from their batsmen didn’t improve, the bowling wasn’t all that better and there were poor moments on the field as well. For Australia, a minor glitch – Finch caught down leg side first ball, but only for Warner and Smith to come together and cruise this. Fifties for both, a bit of confidence, and just an overall top night.

13.11 de Silva to Warner wide. And that’s the game! Easy peasy. A short ball down leg side, he can’t get bat on that 1 wide

End of Over No.13 Australia 117/1 Last Over (6 runs)

One to win. Australia haven’t hit a six this innings.

12.61 Sandakan to Warner length on off stump, driven to long-off with the turn 1 run
12.50 Sandakan to Warner length on off stump, steps out and bat-pads this as he looks to flick no run
12.40 Sandakan to Warner length on off stump, tapped to extra cover no run
12.34 Sandakan to Warner pummeled down the pitch. Short of a length and sitting up nicely for him. He stays on the crease and gets this to fizz past the bowler and then beats long-off’s attempt to the left FOUR
12.20 Sandakan to Warner another rip-the-stumps run out at the other end. This one has been sent upstairs. Warner smashed it back and Smith was walking down a long way. Sandakan had the ball in one hand and the stump in the other. No contact at all between the two, which is how it’s supposed to be done. Smith was way outside and would’ve been out but Sandakan’s erred over there no run
12.11 Sandakan to Smith length on middle stump, steps out and flicks to long-on 1 run

End of Over No.12 Australia 111/1 Last Over (4 runs)

11.60 Pradeep to Warner slower ball at a length outside off, punched on the up to extra cover no run
11.51 Pradeep to Smith slower short ball outside off, slapped out to sweeper cover 1 run
11.40 Pradeep to Smith length and just outside off, driven on the rise to mid-off no run
11.31 Pradeep to Warner slower ball at a length on leg stump. Looks to flick and he’s beaten. Caught right in front of the stumps on the back thigh and a big appeal…and then a late decision to review the not out call. Did that pitch in line? He’s bowling from over the wicket…no, pitching outside leg. Decision stands 1 leg bye
11.20 Pradeep to Warner length on off stump, dropped to point with soft hands no run
11.21 Pradeep to Warner short ball pushed across off stump. Lets that go 1 wide
11.11 Pradeep to Smith length on middle stump, shuffles and flicks to fine leg 1 run

End of Over No.11 Australia 107/1 Last Over (10 runs)

10.61 Sandakan to Smith fifty. Length ball sliding across the corridor. Gets forward and punches to long-off on the rise 1 run
10.50 Sandakan to Smith length on off stump, defended into the leg side on the front foot no run
10.44 Sandakan to Smith too easy. Short and wide outside off, backs away to make some room and chops this late to beat the infield FOUR
10.31 Sandakan to Warner length and sliding into middle stump, stabbed into the midwicket region off the back foot and then survives the run out. Sandakan has gone all the way to midwicket to slide and pick up and aim, but no one from the off side has come up to the stumps. Warner was sent back on the second and had given up as the throw came in from just outside the circle 1 run
10.20 Sandakan to Warner length on off stump, defended to extra cover’s left with the turn no run
10.14 Sandakan to Warner dropped short and wide outside off, gets onto the back foot and hammers this past extra cover FOUR

End of Over No.10 Australia 97/1 Last Over (12 runs)

Thanks Alex. Hard to tell who are favourites at the moment.

Varun is back. It will be a short stint

9.64 Malinga to Smith driving powerfully straight of mid off! Wow. The punch with the bottom hand and it ran to the rope like a bullet. He flushed it FOUR
9.52 Malinga to Smith 132kph, full on off, he slices a drive inside out past point, he immediately calls two and gets it 2 runs
9.44 Malinga to Smith 131kph, half volley on leg stump, he whips powerfully behind square and finds the rope FOUR

Chris : “Pleased to see Aussies revert back to picking their best overall players. They’ve tried lots of combinations with Stoinis, the Marsh bros, Short, Lynn etc. But this team with Smith, Finch, Warner and Maxwell in top 4 looks very strong and has great hitting power depth as well as anchor batsman and experience ”

9.30 Malinga to Smith 127kph low full toss outside off, he checks a drive to mid off no run

Around the wicket

50 for Warner. 15th time he’s reached 50 in T20Is. Second innings in a row

9.21 Malinga to Warner 133kph, short ball, he pulls with ease to deep square 1 run
9.11 Malinga to Smith 129kph, back of a length and some late shape away, he gets a leading edge closing the face but it runs to cover for a single 1 run

Malinga is back

End of Over No.9 Australia 85/1 Last Over (10 runs)

Claire: “The lack of a literal giant in the Sri Lankan bowling line-up probably also helps when dealing with the bounce.” That too

8.62 Sandakan to Warner flatter and shorter, he’s back and pulling powerfully to the gap at deep midwicket, they push for three but only get two 2 runs
8.51 Sandakan to Smith shorter on middle, with all the time in the world, he’s back and working it behind square 1 run
8.41 Sandakan to Warner 79kph, slower on leg, he’s back and pushing this to long on 1 run
8.32 Sandakan to Warner tossed up, he skips down and drives firmly wide of long off and they get two 2 runs

Who will Win Sri Lanka tour of Australia, 2nd T20I: Australia v Sri Lanka ?

With ten nearly equally matched groups, the importance of every game can’t be understated in this tournament. Both sides are expected to emerge out packaged full-strength against each other in what claims to be a cracker of a competition. Contemplating that the 2 sides on newspaper,Sri Lanka are somewhat more power-packed unit whereas Australia possess the benefit of being a steady side. For this and another above-mentioned motives, we believe the Sri Lanka are far more likely to emerge victorious in what will be among the most crucial experiences for either side.
